The indigenous city of Otavalo is famous throughout all of Latin America for its bountiful and colorful market, known as “La Plaza de los Ponchos” or the “Poncho Plaza”. Its vendors offer a variety of artisanal crafts: exquisitely woven fabrics, wool ponchos, sombreros, tapestries, hand-knit sweaters, scarves, carved tagua jewelry, and Andean musical instruments. We invite you to explore it and to purchase souvenirs for family, friends and yourself.
We will also visit the picturesque town of Peguche, famous for its colorful hand-woven textiles. We’ll visit a famed musical instrument workshop, whose owners maintain their ancestral customs and traditions through production of fine instruments. We will continue towards San Antonio where we’ll visit workshops specializing in: woodworking, stonework and ceramics. These artisans preserve the techniques introduced to them by members of the quiteño artistic movement of the Colonial period.
