Andes Community Experience in Saraguro Ancestral Town

per person

DAY 1

Early in the morning, we will depart to Saraguro. It´s located between Cuenca and Loja where you will discover one of the most important indigenous centers of South America. (The road distance is 144.4 km.) The native Saraguros still maintain their Inca roots through the Quichua language and traditional dress code, local constructions and gastronomy

During the trip, we will visit the brick/tile ovens of Susudel and enjoy the landscape and see the mountains and all the valley. In Saraguro we will check-in at the hostel, which has one of the best views of Saraguro. Immediately depart to the community of Gera (small traditional village), where you can enjoy the most picturesque and interesting Andean landscapes in the area: low hills, small canyons and valleys. In Gera, you will visit a small house-museum to become acquainted with the way of life of its people and taste the typical drink called “Huajango” Time to eat your Box Lunch (included)

Accompanied by a local native guide you will hike to The Pucara, it´s an important place strategically located as an observatory for war or spiritually sacred. From the Pucara point- view you will appreciate the Yunguilla Valley and discover this historic Inca fortress. After this amazing visit we will return to Saraguro town.

At night we will have dinner in a typical house. Return to the hotel.

Note: “Chiva” (traditional open-aired bus), is recommended for small groups (10 persons) for the Saraguro-Gera ride.

*For an extra cost, we offer Traditional music played by a local band who plays Andean instruments

Day 2

Depart to other communities, here you will have the opportunity to be part of a  ceremony of “Spiritual purification” known as a “limpia” with the Yakchas (similar to shamans), which consists of bad energies purification through medicinal plants, smoke, and fire. You will be invited to participate in spiritual rituals and pay tribute to Pachamama (Mother Earth) at these sacred sites. After the ritual, we will visit a textile workshop where we will have a demonstration of the different types of looms.
